US jobless rate at lowest in nearly half-decade; falling to 3.6 percent

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The US Labor Department is reporting the jobless rate is at its lowest since December 1969, falling from 3.8% to 3.6% in April.

But while the world’s largest economy added 263,000 jobs last month, 490,000 people reportedly left the labor market.

Professional and business services was the leading sector, adding 76,000 new jobs, followed by the construction industry which tacked on 33,000 new jobs.

Average earnings grew at an annual rate of 3.2%, according to the report.
